Units
TRADElube keeps two lists of units, and they answer two different questions. The base unit says what the content of an article is measured in, the packaging unit what it is shipped in. You reach both through the Settings navigation entry and the buttons Base Units and Pack Units.

Overview
Both lists are built the same way, and what holds for one holds for the other. Every entry carries a Name and a Short Code, both mandatory and both required to be unique. Three buttons sit above the list: New creates a unit, Edit opens the selected one, Delete removes it after a confirmation. The latter two require a selected row. Sorting is fixed to Name, ascending.
A new client comes with one entry in each list, Stück with the short code Stk., in German in every client. You can rename it like any other entry.
Deleting reaches into the shop. Every product that carried the unit afterwards stands there without one, and TRADElube marks it as changed. On the next execution that change goes into every connected system. Whoever wants to replace a unit therefore assigns the new one first and deletes the old one afterwards.
Base units
The base unit is the measure the content is expressed in: litres for paint, kilograms for filler, pieces for a brush. Together with the Base Unit Size field on the product it makes up the base price, the price per litre or per kilogram a shop displays next to the sales price. In several countries that figure is required for consumers, and without a base unit it is missing.
The list shows two columns:

On a base unit the short code is more than a display. Some channels take it directly: the JTL-Wawi connector passes it on as the code of the unit, and the TriData connection recognizes its units by it rather than by the name. A changed short code can therefore leave a mapping there pointing at nothing.
Packaging units
The packaging unit says what the goods leave the house in: a carton, a pallet, a crate. It is a shipping detail and enters no calculation.
Buttons, columns and fields are the same as for the base units, and the detail view carries the same section with the same two fields.
From a packaging unit TRADElube transfers the name, not the short code. The short code remains a mandatory field nonetheless. Enter there what you want to read in the list, and choose the name the way it should read in the target system.
How a unit reaches a connected system
That depends on the system, and the two routes differ fundamentally.
Where a record stands on the far side too, it is mapped: you set up once per channel which unit there corresponds to which one here. A Shopware channel carries such a mapping for the base units, the CAO-Faktura connector for base and packaging units. What a mapping is and why it exists is described under mappings.
Where there is only a text field, the name is written into it. That is how a Shopware channel handles the packaging unit: Shopware keeps no directory of its own for it, only a line of text on the product.
