Managing images

This guide attaches the images to their products, sets each product's cover, and the next execution takes the files into the shop. An image in TRADElube is a medium, a record of its own and not a file on the product: the same image hangs on several products and is still transferred only once. The fields of a medium are under media and are not repeated here.

Prerequisites

  • Image files with names they can be found under again: the gallery sorts and searches by file name.
  • For whole ranges: the running file import. There the images come through a column carrying the image address, see importing products from a file.

Step by step

  1. Upload. Drag the file into the Upload field in the product's Images section. That creates the medium and links it in one go. The same field exists in the media overview under the Media navigation entry, where the medium is created without a link. There is no button for creating one without a file. A medium always comes from its file.

  2. Link an existing image. On the product, Add in the Images section opens the media overview for picking. That is how a data sheet or a group photo hangs on every variant of the family without being uploaded a second time.

  3. Set the cover. The Is Cover checkbox on a tile marks the image that lists and overviews show and that usually becomes the main image in the shop. There is always at most one: ticking it on one image takes it off the previous one.

  4. With an import, the images come through their address. A column of the supplier file carries the image address, and TRADElube fetches the file during the execution. More than one image per product comes from several media record sets in the transfer plan, and their order there is the order of the gallery. On the product itself you only set the cover.

  5. Transfer. Depending on the system, the files go with a media task of their own and the link plus cover with the product upload. What applies to your system is on its page under channels and tasks. Where both tasks exist, let the media run before the products, so the product upload finds the files in the shop.

Checking the result

  • The product's Images section shows the tiles with the cover set. The media overview carries every file exactly once.
  • After the execution the medium carries its mapping in the Channels section. Which images have arrived and which have not is answered in the media overview by the Channel filter under Filter By.
  • The shop shows gallery and main image as set on the product.

Frequent pitfalls

  • Deleting is two different things. Delete in the product's Images section only releases the link from step 2. Delete in the media overview removes the file from step 1, from every other product it hangs on too. The products affected count as changed, and the next execution takes that along.
  • A medium without a file of its own is only as available as its address. A medium carries either the content or only the address it came from, and the import from step 4 creates it with the address. In the second case every transfer loads from that address, and a dead address makes it fail. Both addresses are in the medium's Common section.
  • Identical file names merge what belongs together, and only that. The import from step 4 assigns images by their name. Two different images under the same file name would be indistinguishable in the stock. A meaningful, unique name per file spares the mix-up.
