Options

The Options button opens the settings that apply to the whole client. You reach it through the Settings navigation entry.

That is a single setting, and it concerns the media: whether TRADElube scales an image down on import before storing it.

The page has no save button. What you change here is saved with the click, and there is no confirmation. That sets it apart from the detail views of the other settings, which carry a save bar.

Media

The Media section is collapsed when you first arrive, and a click on its heading opens it. The state you leave it in is the state you find it in next time.

As long as the Compress Media on Import box is cleared, nothing else sits in the section. Tick it and the two limits appear below.

What happens on import

The two values span a rectangle the image has to fit into. TRADElube scales it down proportionally until width and height sit inside it. The aspect ratio is thereby kept, a smaller image is never enlarged, and the file format stays the same.

The result is only taken over where it actually makes the file smaller. Where the image was larger than the two limits, any saving is enough for that. Where it already sat inside them, the new file has to be at least five percent smaller, otherwise the delivered one stays. The reason for the second condition: a re-encoding that saves nothing still costs image quality.

The setting applies from the next import on and not retroactively. Whatever is already stored as a medium stays unchanged, even where it exceeds the limits.

Every path on which a file becomes a medium is affected: the Upload field in the Media area, the same field on a product in its Images section, and every image a task fetches from a connected system.
