Media Upload

The task uploads your images into the Shopify shop's media library. It runs before Products Upload, because into the shop a product carries only the reference to its image. What is not there yet it cannot name.

What gets transferred

For each medium in TRADElube a file is created in the shop's media library. The task takes your entire media stock along, not only the images attached to a product. There is no selection beyond that, this task knows no condition.

TRADElube does not upload the file itself but tells Shopify its address. The shop fetches it from there, which is why the address has to be reachable for it.

A medium deleted in TRADElube is deleted in the shop.

How the transfer plan is built

One plan with a single section, so no tab bar sits above the assignments. It carries three rows:

Assignment What goes into it
File Name The name the file sits under in the shop, mandatory
Original Source The address Shopify fetches the file from, mandatory
Alternative Text The image's alternative text

There is normally nothing to change about this plan. File Name comes from the medium's name, Original Source from its address in TRADElube, and each has this one source only.

File Name is only set on creation. So if you rename a medium later, the file in the shop keeps its old name, and the products' references to it stay valid.

Special features and limits

A file already present in the shop is taken over rather than duplicated. TRADElube first looks there for a file with the same file name and remembers it as a channel mapping before creating a new one. So two media with the same file name are one file in the shop.

Which product an image belongs to is not decided by this task. It puts the file in place. The reference to it is set by Products Upload in the Media section.
